- Gravity waves: wave breaking, interaction with the slow manifold, influence on the atmospheric circulation
- Atmospheric boundary layer: hydrodynamic instability of compressible flows, coherent structure dynamics (theory for formation and evolution)
- Hydrodynamic instability: transition to turbulence and mixing in stratified flows, clear air turbulence, wave breaking
- Turbulence self-organization into zonal jets and large scale waves and vortices: statistical description of geophysical turbulence, spontaneous formation and evolution of jets, waves and vortices and influence on the general circulation and on climate
